Whilst sometimes, the best thing to do is to save the tooth. Sometimes, the tooth may be so decayed, gum disease is so far advanced, or the tooth has suffered trauma, overcrowding, or a wisdom tooth has become impacted and causes significant oral health issues, the tooth must be removed. We make extracting your teeth safe, comfortable and gentle at each of our locations here at Azura Dental in Muscat, Oman for your individual needs. Whether you choose for an easy extraction or a surgical tooth removal, our experienced team make it as comfortable as possible without causing stress and ensures a smooth recovery.

What are the different kinds of extraction of teeth?

There are three types of dental extraction surgery:

Simple extraction – The extraction of a tooth that is exposed in the mouth.

Surgical extraction refers to the removal of impacted, broken or partially erupted teeth.

Wisdom tooth extraction refers to the removal of the third molars that can be either simple or surgical, based on their position.

If a tooth is clearly visible above the gum line and can be extracted without a surgical procedure, it is recommended to have a simple extraction. It is a simple process which is done under local anaesthetic and you will be comfortable during treatment. The tooth is gently loosened and then taken out with special dental instruments. The majority of patients report very little pain and are able to resume normal activities in a relatively brief time frame by following the post-op guidelines given by our staff.

When a tooth is impacted, broken under the gum line, too badly damaged or not fully erupted, a surgical extraction is necessary. In this process, a small opening is cut into the gum to safely gain access to the tooth and remove it without damaging the adjacent bone and gum tissues. We employ the latest techniques and cutting-edge equipment to ensure that the treatment is as comfortable and efficient as possible, at Azura Dental in Muscat, Oman. Our dentists also hand out thorough post-operative instructions to help minimize swelling, prevent complications and promote faster healing.

What does the difference in extraction and surgical extraction mean?

A simple extraction occurs when the tooth is exposed above the gum line, and can be removed with dental instruments under local anaesthetic. If the tooth is impacted, broken below the gum line, or is hard to reach, then a surgical extraction will be required. The surgical extraction is a small opening through the gum and sometimes there is more than one section of the tooth that will need to be removed to extract the tooth.

Does tooth extraction have pain?

No. Surgical tooth extraction does not hurt during the extraction process as the area is completely numbed with local anaesthetic. May experience slight pressure, but not pain in some patients. Slightly sore and swollen after the anaesthetic subsided is normal, and can be well managed with prescribed medication, cold compresses and after care.  Most patients will make a quick recovery easily in a couple of days.

What is the price of a tooth extraction surgery?

Several factors are involved in determining the cost of surgical tooth extraction such as the position of the tooth, the complexity of the procedure, whether or not X-rays are needed, and whether or not any additional treatment is necessary. Each patient is thoroughly examined and given a personalized treatment plan before treatment at the Muscat, Oman treatment center, Azura Dental, so there are no hidden expenses.

Simple extraction cost

The easy removal cost is in general lower than a surgical extraction, as it is more straightforward and uncomplicated. Final cost will be determined by tooth condition, diagnostic imaging and patient’s specific treatment needs.
